Welcome to Rocky Point

Oceanfront condos in Rocky Point, an easy drive from Arizona

Puerto Peñasco sits where the Sonoran Desert runs straight into the warm, calm water at the top of the Sea of Cortez. Our three residences look out over Playa Encanto, a quiet stretch of sand just east of town, at the Encantame resorts.

Casa Marea and Casa Alegría are neighbors at Encantame Towers, each with two king suites and a terrace above the pools. Casa Pelícano is a three-bedroom on the eighteenth floor of Encantame Soleil next door. Stay in one, or reserve all three for a reunion, a wedding party or two families who like each other's company but not each other's alarm clocks.

Bring everyone. Keep one reservation.

Tell us the size of your group and we'll show the nights when enough residences are free together, so a group trip never turns into separate bookings that don't line up.

  1. Tell us how many guests you're hosting.
  2. The calendar shows the nights a residence or a combination has room for everyone, and we suggest the best fit.
  3. One reservation, one payment, and up to 20 guests side by side on the same beach.

Things worth getting off the lounger for

The beaches

Big tides, calm water, long sunsets

At the top of the Sea of Cortez the tide can swing as much as twenty feet, so the same beach is a swimming cove in the afternoon and a mile of sandbars the next morning. The water stays warm from late spring into the fall, and the sun sets straight over the sea.

The Malecón and Old Port

Shrimp, fish tacos and the fishing fleet

Puerto Peñasco grew up as a shrimping town, and the Old Port still runs on it. Walk the Malecón for seafood stands, cocteles and the fleet at anchor, and buy the morning's shrimp straight from the market.

Low tide

Tide pools from Sandy Beach to Cholla Bay

When the sea pulls back, the rocky points around town open into pools full of sea stars, anemones, hermit crabs and the occasional octopus. Check a tide chart, go out on a minus tide, and stay for the colors when the pools catch the sunset.

Cerro de la Ballena

The whole bay from the lighthouse hill

The hill above the Old Port, crowned by the lighthouse, is the town's lookout: the Malecón below, Sandy Beach's towers along the shore, and the sea turning gold in the evening. It's a short climb, and the best place to watch a Rocky Point sunset.

El Pinacate

A UNESCO desert of craters and dunes

About an hour north, the Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve is a World Heritage Site: black lava fields, giant volcanic craters such as El Elegante, and the largest field of active sand dunes in North America. Go early, carry water, and stay for the light.

Rocky Point rental questions

Can we book more than one condo in the same reservation?

Yes. Tell us how many guests you're hosting and the calendar shows the nights when a residence, or a combination of residences side by side, has room for everyone. One reservation and one payment cover them all, up to 20 guests.

Where are the condos?

All three are at the Encantame resorts on Playa Encanto, a quiet beach just east of Rocky Point (Puerto Peñasco), Sonora, Mexico: two in Encantame Towers and one in Encantame Soleil next door.

How far is Rocky Point from Phoenix and Tucson?

Roughly four hours by car from Phoenix and about three and a half from Tucson, crossing at Lukeville and Sonoyta.

Do I need a passport to drive to Rocky Point?

US citizens need a passport or passport card to re-enter the United States, and Mexican auto insurance for the car. Puerto Peñasco is in Sonora's free zone, so no vehicle import permit is needed when driving from Arizona.

Is there a booking fee?

No. The price you see includes the cleaning fee, damage waiver, the resort's nightly impact fee, the 3% hospitality tax and Mexico's 8% IVA, with no booking fee on top.

How does payment work?

Half is charged when you book and the balance is charged automatically to the same card 10 days before arrival. Stays that begin sooner are paid in full when booked.
